The Leaders of Hunger: A Look at the New Ogor Mawtribes Characters

,

This weekend marks the official release of the Ogor Mawtribes. Over the past month, we have tried to show you how Games Workshop has developed and portrayed this faction from the very beginning of Age of Sigmar right up to its latest Fourth Edition battletome. To bring our coverage of the faction to a close, today we will delve into the lore of the three new characters introduced in this latest update.

Morga The Mighty

To become a great ogor leader requires strength, confidence, and hunger, qualities that Morga not only possesses, but has proven throughout all her journeys. Although the granite throne of the Meatfist has passed through the hands of many Overtyrants, her ambitions reach far beyond that. She is not content merely to defeat rivals from other tribes or the many foes of Ghur; she intends to forge the greatest ogor empire in history.

Morga is one of the daughters of Globb Glittermaw. As she watched her father grow weaker and forge ties with other races, she decided she no longer wished to remain at his side. She abandoned his wars, journeyed to the farthest reaches of Ghur, and devoted herself to fighting, hunting, and seeking adventure alongside different ogor clans, taking particular delight in facing the largest and most dangerous beasts in all of Ghur.

As the years passed, Morga became convinced that it was her destiny to lead the Meatfist. She ended her travels across Ghur and returned to claim what she believed was rightfully hers. Her confrontation with Globb was the culmination of this ambition. The battle was brutal, and although Globb was far larger than Morga, her combat experience and hunger made up for the difference in size. After a savage struggle, Globb’s entrails lay scattered across the ground. Morga had won, but victory did not mean that the other tyrants would accept her as their leader. Morga could easily slaughter them one by one, but if they chose to unite against her, it would spell her end.

It was the arrival of Reed The Maw that prevented the coming bloodshed. He announced that, during his journey through Shyish, he had beheld the Gulping God and understood that Morga was the chosen one destined to fulfil his will. Although the other tyrants eventually accepted Morga, she despises Redd for interfering with the culmination of her plan to seize control of the Meatfist tribe.

Morga is not particularly devout, for feasting and conquest interest her far more than omens divined from a handful of entrails. She is so powerful that she has little need for weapons to destroy her enemies, yet she carries the Meatfist Mauler, one of the legendary weapons wielded during the first crusade of the Gulping God and originally borne by the first Overtyrant Grawl. The Mawseekers bathe it daily in blood and viscera to awaken its hunger. Morga considers the practice a waste, but tolerates it to preserve order and maintain her leadership over the tribe.

Grell Firefist

Grell Firefist is a Maneater, an ogor who rejected tribal life to become a mercenary. The Maneaters introduced the idea of working for others in exchange for wealth and food among the ogors, something regarded as an almost shameful secret among most ogor clans. Although the rise of the Mawseekers has brought this profession into disrepute, Grell proudly continues his life as a mercenary.

Grell was the youngest son, but chose to escape the fate that awaited him and carve out his own path. After serving as a mercenary under various Maneater captains, he travelled alongside Morga for a time and later worked for numerous employers, including Tahlia Vedra of Hammerhal, one of the few humans he respects. Despite his demanding nature, he manages to secure good deals for those who fight alongside him.

His nickname, “Firefist,” comes from his fascination with gunpowder and cannons. His current weapon, Blastbelch (Eructoexplosivo), even blew off one of his hands, but that did nothing to diminish his enthusiasm for it. Grell and the ogors who fight alongside him have learned how to make the most of the immense carnage it unleashes.

Redd The Maw

Redd The Maw considers himself a prophet, and his predictions are accurate enough to make even the sceptics doubt. He interprets the future by studying the entrails within his cauldron. As he performs these rituals, his enemies suffer the terrible spells of this gastromancer, assaults that ravage both body and mind.

He was once known as Redd The Cleaver, a respected Mawseeker of the Meatfist. Although he had always distrusted Globb Glittermaw, the Overtyrant, it was the way his entrails twisted within him that first convinced him something was wrong with their ruler. His unease eventually grew into an obsession with Shyish and the fate of ogors after death. Unable to find answers in Ghur, he convinced his followers to leave the realm and embark upon a long quest.

His journey carried him across deadly seas to the island of Kos, a wintry land inhabited by ogor pirates known as the Kosargi, infamous for having served the vampire Radukar. There, he discovered ancient carvings that foretold an age when “a bottomless maw would open to devour reality, thought and time.” The Kosargi associated this prophecy with the Shyish Nadir, while their elders preserved their own traditions and guarded a series of frozen stone circles known as the Gate of Kos. Redd chose to pass through them, driven by a force that even he did not fully understand.

When Redd returned from his strange journey, he claimed to have beheld the Gulping God, though not as the green god that some identified with the ogors’ deity. To Redd, the true Gulping God was a cosmic force destined to devour all of creation.

His enormous cauldron seemed to lend credence to his words: it was covered in entrail-like symbols unknown even to the Kosargi, and which bore no connection to Nagash. When Redd draws upon the power of the cauldron to fuel his magic, he unleashes a force that is savage, ancient and deeply bound to the primal hunger of the ogors—so intimidating that even the orruks regard him with suspicion.

His goal is to draw all ogors into his new religion, uniting them into a single, colossal maw destined to satisfy the hunger of the Gulping God. Although his ambitions may seem like delusions of grandeur, one disturbing question remains: Redd appears to have truly made contact with some kind of divinity, and it remains unclear what entity speaks to him through his bloody concoctions.
