The Generals Hub: Vicente Gómez at the IV GT Sevilla
Hello, Generals!
Today we’re joined by a player who’s very active in the Spanish Age of Sigmar WhatsApp groups.
The great Vicente Gómez, captain of Puticornios and an Ogor Mawtribes player, takes us round by round through his experience at the IV GT Sevilla, organised by Hispalis Wars.
You can also relive several games from the GT over on their Twitch channel.
Vicente Gomez Macias

Hi, I’m Vicente Gómez. I started playing Age of Sigmar in third edition with Skaven, but, well, anyone who knows me knows that I tend to switch armies quite a lot.
Since I started playing, I’ve played Skaven, Ossiarch Bonereapers, Slaves to Darkness, Kharadron Overlords, Gloomspite Gitz, Seraphon, Khorne, Stormcast Eternals, Nurgle, Ogor Mawtribes, and a few others.
I’m the captain of Puticornios, and I usually adapt to whatever the team needs.

Ogor Mawtribes, Ol’ Reliable

Well, four days before the list submission deadline, we got a Battlescroll, as we all know, and we had to make some changes to our lists and, in some cases, even switch armies entirely. This meant we didn’t quite get the result we were hoping for at the GT.
We came very close to finishing fifth, but ultimately ended up 11th after losing the final round on table 4, while having the third-highest SoS in the tournament.
But anyway, let’s get into it!
My list took a points increase, so I had to drop the Tyrant, move his artefacts over to the Bloodpelt, and add some Frost Sabres.
The list is simple, but it has exactly what you want for certain pairings and maps. The idea was to play on closed maps and into armies that couldn’t deal effectively with the Gluttons. Between the potential -1 Rend, +1 to saves if they haven’t charged, their 40 wounds, the 6+ Ward while they’re with Redd, and healing D3 if they’ve “eaten”, they’re pretty tough to shift.
And it’s not like they hit softly in return either: 4 attacks on 4+/2+, or 3+/2+ if you get the +1 to Hit spell off, with Rend -1/-2.
On top of that, you have the possibility of a DR with the Hunters if you take them along during deployment with the Bloodpelt, as well as a reposition with the other Hunters to within 3″ of a terrain feature and more than 9″ away from enemy units.
That gives you plenty of options: you can play more aggressively, open up the map when necessary, or even use them as bait or a screen.
IV GT Sevilla
The GT was, as always, very well organised, and there’s one key thing that clearly keeps improving every year. This time, they added quite a few higher tables, which made the games much more comfortable to play, and it was definitely appreciated.
All that’s left for me is to thank all my opponents for the great vibes and for making every game so much more enjoyable. That’s exactly how it should be!

We also want to congratulate Hispalis Wars on the incredible GT they put together year after year, firmly establishing it as one of the best events on the national scene.
In addition, at the very last minute, Games Workshop recognized the hard work of the entire staff by awarding them Golden Tickets for the event winners. A thoroughly deserved recognition!
To wrap things up, here are a few photos of the prizes, the staff, and the venue used for the event.

Ronda 1 vs Santi Flores
Kruleboyz Light Finga – 54/30

On paper, it looked like a pretty even pairing, but I had the advantage of having played this exact matchup several times during the week. My teammate Jesús Rico had to switch to Kruleboyz just one week before the GT, so I’d had plenty of practice into it.
After deployment, I saw an opportunity to hunt down Gobsprakk with the Hunters and go after another target with the Bloodpelt, so I decided to take the first turn. I went for it, and it worked out well.
On the other side of the board, I scored Siege with the Sabres and the small unit of Hunters, securing my 15 points and preventing him from scoring the full 10 objective points throughout the game, as he would have needed to push me off both the red and yellow objectives.
There was a point where, with slightly better dice, he could have made the game much closer. He charged the Gluttons in the centre with the Troll, the Lizard, and a unit of Gutrippaz, but they held on long enough for the rest of my army to arrive.
In the end, the game finished 54–30 in my favour.
Ronda 2 vs Alberto Garcia
Lumineth Realm-lords Warhost of Duality – 37/56

A difficult pairing, with a lot of shooting, plenty of mobility thanks to the Fox and the band, and a map where you have to spread out until you can start removing objectives, which isn’t exactly ideal for Ogors.
Even so, I thought I could either win or lose by a small margin if I managed the game well.
It was a very close game, with very few mistakes from either side and several key moments, including a priority roll where we both rolled double 1s, which Alberto ended up winning.
In the end, I lost 56–37.
One of those games that’s an absolute pleasure to play, against a very good opponent and someone who’s genuinely great to share a table with.
Ronda 3 vs JM Morientes
Daughters of Khaine Coven of Blood – 75/17

This time I was up against my friend Juanma, so we were keeping it in the family. It’s always a pleasure to play against our friends from Córdoba.
A map that, on paper, isn’t the best for Ogors, but the pairing itself was favourable. It’s true that the Medusas are one of the few units that, when properly buffed, can take down a unit of Gluttons, but between the Hunters’ shooting and having to deal with both units of Gluttons, it can become a pretty difficult matchup for him.
Juanma did exactly what he needed to do: deny me my shooting, making very good use of his faction ability so I couldn’t see them during the first few turns. The problem is that I can come in 9″ away with the Hunters, so by the following turn I already have them in sight.
On top of that, I managed to deny his rites and made my charges, so there wasn’t much he could do.
Even so, he kept fighting, managing to kill one unit of Gluttons and even charging Redd with Morathi. In the end, Redd survived and I was able to close out the game.
Final score: 75–17 in my favour.
Ronda 4 vs Fernando Martin Ramos-Catalina
Maggotkin of Nurgle Tallyband of Nurgle – 70/42

A game against our friends from Plasticómanos Anónimos, also from here in Seville. This time, I was up against Nurgle, a pairing that nobody on my team wanted and that ultimately fell to me.
After deployment, I saw an opportunity to take the first turn and put pressure on Rotigus right from turn 1, so I decided to go for it. I ran forward with everything, got onto the objectives, and brought the reinforced unit of Hunters in behind Rotigus, managing to deal 13 wounds to him on turn 1.
On his first turn, we ended up engaged with pretty much everything. I left the Sabres behind to hold the objective, as he had a unit in DR.
I won the priority roll for turn 2, where I managed to kill Rotigus and Gelgus, and from that point on the game was very much in my favour.
Fernando managed to scrape together every point he could, and we eventually finished 70–42 in my favour.
Ronda 5 vs Jose La Hyena
Flesh-eater Courts The Royal Hunt – 67/22

A favourable pairing where he gave me the first turn. I moved just far enough towards the objective so that, on his turn, he either wouldn’t be able to reach me with anything or would have to make some very long charges.
On the other flank, I brought out all the Hunters, where I had already redeployed the other unit, allowing me to take control of that side quite easily, while Redd and the Gluttons fought over the other flank.
With my shooting, I managed to take out a unit of Crypt Guard, and on his turn he charged me with the Horrors. Between my defensive ability, the mortal wounds from the Hunters when they were charged, and the combat that followed, they really struggled to make an impact. On top of that, because of the way everything was positioned, he had to engage both units.
I won the priority roll and was able to pretty much close out the game. He managed to scrape together a few points by bringing units back, but by then he had very little board presence left.
Final score: 67–22 in my favour.
Puticornios
Vicente also tells us how Puticornios handle their pairings. Apparently, one of their members prays really hard to the Machine God and has developed an app that helps them throughout the entire pairing process.
After gathering data from GGS and BCP, the tool generates preliminary matrices for the different battleplans and matchups. The team then adjusts them manually when necessary, as that general data doesn’t always perfectly reflect each specific pairing.
What’s particularly interesting is that the app recalculates the available options as the pairing process progresses. For example, if it recommends putting forward a certain faction as the first defender and also identifies the best option from the opposing team into it, once those options have been offered and ruled out, the app recalculates the situation.
This way, it continuously updates the best available options based on the factions still left in play, helping the team make decisions at every stage of the pairing process.

What Do You Think of Ogor Mawtribes After the Battlescroll?
After the balance update, I think we’re going to keep seeing pretty much the same builds. Even though Hunters, Gluttons, and Redd all went up in points, they’re still significantly better than the rest of the book.
The cavalry, despite being very good, is still quite expensive. If they really wanted to shake up list building, they should have reduced the points of other options, such as the Ironguts, for example.
As long as things stay this way, I think people will simply tweak their lists, but we’ll continue to see Redd alongside Gluttons, Hunters, and Gogers.
