The Generals Hub: The Aphotecarion

Hello, Generals!

Today, we’re bringing you something that goes beyond miniatures and the various Games Workshop games.

We’d like to introduce you to a wonderful project that’s well worth the 4 minutes you’ll spend reading this post.

Today, Mario Cabida introduces us to his project: The Apothecarion.

Mario Cabida

I’ve never been very good at introducing myself, but I’ll give it a try!

Well, I’m Mario. I’m 34 years old and I come from Salamanca, the city of knowledge, partying, and hornazo.

I got into Warhammer when I was about 8 years old, I think. My father gave us the Warhammer 40K 3rd Edition starter box and Imrik, the High Elf Prince from Warhammer Fantasy Battles (WHFB).

Aside from Warhammer, I play quite a lot of D&D with friends. I love slot cars, RC cars, and model kits like Tamiya, especially racing cars. I have more little cars at home than I’m willing to admit.

Getting back to Warhammer, my favourite armies are Space Marines, as long as they’re not Primaris, God forbid! That’s why I love the Horus Heresy, especially since it’s the part of the lore that interests me the most.

To be honest, I’m not very familiar with Age of Sigmar, but I’ve painted several Nighthaunt miniatures and I absolutely love them. And when it comes to Warhammer Fantasy, now The Old World, I’d go with the Tomb Kings.

What is The Apothecarion?

The Apothecarion is a Warhammer charity project dedicated to raising funds to fight childhood brain cancer. Specifically, everything we’ve raised over the past two years, more than €10,000, goes to the Niño Jesús Children’s Hospital in Madrid to help fund their comprehensive rehabilitation programme for children who have survived brain cancer, ensuring they can enjoy a good quality of life.

How we do it is very simple: we raise money through a charity raffle, with prizes consisting of miniatures and illustrations donated by members of our community from many different countries.

The idea started taking shape in 2024, when a Warhammer buddy of mine from the UK did something similar, but on a much smaller scale, involving just his local community and a few others.

A year later, after talking it over with several friends, including the esteemed Ekkius, I created the Instagram account @the_apothecarion and started recruiting people. Almost all of them were complete strangers who were kind enough to trust an account with very few followers that was asking them to donate a miniature.

To this day, I still can’t explain how it worked. I’m incredibly grateful to everyone who contributed and continues to support us.

Hearts of Hope, Miniature Painting Competition

The Apothecarion, in collaboration with AK Interactive, presents Hearts of Hope, a charity miniature painting competition. Participants can contribute by donating a miniature to the charity raffle and will have the chance to win a special Hearts of Hope medal, along with prizes provided by the sponsors. An initiative that brings together creativity, miniature painting, and solidarity within our community.

The competition will feature the following judges:

The Apothecarion in Age of Sigmar?

I really hope so! I think it’s a fantastic idea, and I hope we can make it happen. Although I’ll need you guys to give me a hand!

How Can Artists Contribute?

It’s very simple.

For each edition, we select a few Warhammer 40K factions, and all you have to do is paint whichever miniature you like most from those factions and send it to us so we can add it to the raffle prizes.

For the current edition, “A Wall Unyielding”, the theme is the Last Wall Protocol. The factions you can choose from are:

  • Imperial Fists and their successor chapters.
  • Adeptus Custodes and Sisters of Silence.
  • Iron Warriors.
  • Orks.

Everyone is welcome to participate, regardless of their painting skill level. What really matters here is coming together for a good cause and having fun.

And, of course, 3D-printed miniatures, conversions, and more are all welcome. As I said, the important thing is to enjoy painting your minis.

If you’re an illustrator or sculptor, you can also contribute. We hope you like this year’s theme and factions!

We’ll be accepting donations until September next year, so there’s plenty of time to paint at your own pace without letting adult responsibilities get in the way.

How to Enter the Raffle?

You can purchase raffle tickets through the link in our Instagram bio: buymeacoffee.com/theapothecarion.

For just €4, you’ll be helping us out a ton!

As I mentioned, we’ve just launched the new edition, so there’s plenty of time to get painting.

I encourage you all to leave the Mortal Realms behind, cross the Warp, and grab your bolters to join the Last Wall!
