The Maw Opens: The New Era of the Ogor Mawtribes
The first mawtribes emerged when a powerful warlord brought other ogors under his command through sheer force. His authority was based solely on strength, following the law of the strongest — a natural principle among the peoples of Destruction.
Mawtribes are nomadic armies, but to the ogors they represent far more than a fighting force: they are a clan. They take great pride in their history and their founders, preserve the deeds of their ancestors, and regard their camps as sacred places. Although some ogors leave in search of adventure, most will rejoin their former mawtribe when their paths cross again.
Within the mawtribes, we can find three different types of subclans: the Gutbusters, Beastclaw, and Mawseekers. They coexist within the same greater mawtribe, and as a result, they often compete for prestige and influence.
The Meatfist are the most powerful mawtribe in Ghur and dominate a vast region north of Thondia. Their name comes from their founder, Grawl Meatfist, who is said to have defeated a titan of Ghur by tearing out its entrails and staining his fists with its blood. The new characters Morga the Mighty and Reed the Maw belong to this mawtribe.

Gutbusters
The Gutbusters are the most iconic image of the ogors across the Mortal Realms. They embody the stereotypical ogor: brutal, gluttonous, proud, violent, and largely uninterested in civilisation. Many work as mercenaries, but life in the cities rarely suits them. Within their own tribes, physical strength is greatly admired, and those who are particularly large and powerful command great respect.
The Gutbusters are divided into glothordes, groups of ogors that compete with one another and can range in size from just a handful of ogors to enormous gatherings of entire families. While even a single glothorde poses a serious threat, several may come together during great migrations. Each has its own laws, traditions, and Tyrant, and an ogor’s loyalty usually lies with their glothorde before their mawtribe.
It is not uncommon for a disgruntled Tyrant to abandon their tribe and establish a new one in distant lands. One example is the Tarkan, followers of Kragnuk, who claim allegiance to the Meatfist mawtribe despite living in isolation in Shyish.

Beastclaws Raiders
These ogors reject the values embraced by the Gutbusters, such as wealth, fame, and the mercenary life, seeing them as a corruption of their ancient ways. They preserve their ancestral tongue and prefer to remain isolated, gathering with other tribes only for great hunts or tribal councils, while avoiding intermingling so as not to lose their traditions.
The Everwinter forces the Beastclaw to live as nomads. Wherever they travel, the cold follows, transforming even deserts and jungles into frozen landscapes. This makes them exceptional hunters, as they use raging snowstorms as cover to move unseen and launch their attacks.
With the appearance of the Gulping Pits, magical manifestations that open in the ground wherever gastromantic magic gathers in great concentrations, the advance of the Everwinter has begun to slow. The Beastclaw see this omen as the beginning of a great change and a sign that they must return to their most primal traditions.

Mawseekers
The Mawseekers are fanatical ogors who see life as one great feast. Even as the world stands on the brink of collapse, they view it as an opportunity and a blessing from their god. They see the Hour of Ruin as the perfect moment to sate the hunger of the Gulping God and take their creed to its ultimate expression.
Unlike many other creatures of Destruction, ogors are capable of developing a profound religious faith. The Mawseekers believe that the Gulping God will open its maw and devour all of reality, and that the ogors must help prepare this great feast by consuming the realms and sacrificing both physical and spiritual matter. Their leader, Redd the Maw, preaches that this fate is inevitable and calls upon his followers to hasten its arrival.
The Butchers are the spiritual leaders of the cult. They practise gastromancy, interpreting the movements of their own stomachs and entrails as divine messages. Their commandments encourage ogors to kill their prey in ways that leave the flesh intact, so that it may be offered to the Gulping God. Their rituals seem to empower their magic and drive many ogors into an almost feral state, ruled solely by hunger and obedience to the Butchers.

The hour of the ruin
Globb Glittermaw, Overtyrant of the Meatfist, became an example to other Tyrants of how a mawtribe could be ruled through wealth, trade, and ostentation. However, this angered the more conservative ogors, who questioned whether such a way of life truly reflected the will of the Gulping God. The Butchers warned of ill omens, especially following the emergence of the Shyish Nadir after Nagash’s plan failed, convinced that ogor society had strayed too far from its true roots.
With the Age of Sigmar and the return of humanity to the Mortal Realms, along with the emergence of the Skaven, the belief that the Gulping God was displeased grew even stronger. To the ogors, the Skaven plagues were a manifestation of the Gulping God’s unrestrained hunger. While Globb remained idle and continued to enrich himself through mercenary dealings, discontent among the ogor tribes continued to grow.
Despite this widespread unrest, there were no clear challengers to Globb’s rule. Redd, one of the few who had dared to openly defy the Overtyrant, had disappeared into Shyish, further increasing the uncertainty as the tribes prepared for war.

However, a legendary warrior and descendant of Globb emerged: Morga the Mighty. After years spent battling colossal enemies far from home, she returned to the lands of the Meatfist, determined to change the course of her people. She publicly challenged Globb, condemning his cowardice and decadence.
The two agreed to settle their dispute through a traditional duel, leaving the feasting hall behind to face one another before the entire tribe.
After a brutal fight, Morga managed to tear out one of Globb’s golden tusks and drive it into his throat, killing her father. Following her victory, Morga devoured Globb’s brain as a symbol of triumph and proclaimed a new era for the ogors. She declared that they would no longer serve other peoples and that they would conquer Ghur to reaffirm their supremacy.
When another ogor attempted to challenge her, a group of Butchers appeared alongside Redd the Maw, who had just returned from Shyish. Redd claimed to have beheld the Gulping God and proclaimed that Morga was the chosen one destined to fulfil its will: to take a great bite out of Ghur and prepare the world for the Great Feast.
Redd’s prestige convinced many tribes to follow Morga. In return, she allowed the Butchers to gain greater influence and encouraged the abandonment of customs they considered impure. To cement this new alliance, they needed a great victory, and the Skaven invading Thondia became the perfect target.

Since Redd the Maw allied himself with Morga the Mighty, the Mawseeker cult has spread throughout almost all of ogor society. Its Butchers travel from tribe to tribe, holding enormous ritual feasts after their victories, where they devour even fallen allies and enemies.
This practice horrifies even many Gutbusters, yet the cult continues to grow, attracting new followers who are convinced that the Great Feast is drawing near.
