The Generals Hub: September 5-6 Report

A week of six Grand Tournaments across the Age of Sigmar competitive circuit, with stops in Sweden (two), Poland, the United Kingdom, and the United States. The headline event came from exactly there: the NOVA AoS GT, in Virginia, was the first major tournament on the calendar held with the new Ogor Mawtribes battletome already out.

NOVA AoS GT, run over eight rounds with 91 players, was by far the largest tournament of the week — and the most closely watched, as the large-scale debut of the new Ogor Mawtribes tome. The faction delivered several notable performances without quite fighting for the title: Jiwan Noah Singh finished twelfth with Maw-Cult Fanatics (4-0-1), while Radu Anghelache (Hunger-Filled Tribe) and Joe Shoemaker (Maw-Cult Fanatics) rounded out the top of the table with 3-0-2 each. The title, meanwhile, came down to two very different lists: Fabien Barbusse (Cities of Sigmar, Swift Reinforcements) and Jacob Brandon (Hedonites of Slaanesh, Depraved Carnival) finished tied at 7-1, and Barbusse took the trophy on battle points (332 to 314). Rounding out the podium was Thomas Guan, third with Idoneth Deepkin (Akhelian Beastmasters, 6-0-1).

Disciples of Tzeentch was the faction of the week outside Virginia, and with a repeated recipe: the Malevolent Schemers subfaction took two of the other five titles. Tom Batsford won Games of Westeros XXII (Västerås, Sweden) with a 4-0-1, and Grzybek Murzyńska went a perfect 5-0 at the II Bydgoski Master (Bydgoszcz, Poland). Despite the double, the faction sits in the middle of the overall stats, with a 44.1% winrate across 152 games.

The best pure winrate of the week belonged to Daughters of Khaine (63.2% across 29 players, 106 games), with Joel Graham reaching second place at Tabled By Two GT as the best individual result. Close behind are Idoneth Deepkin (59.0% across 9 players), with Thomas Guan‘s podium finish at NOVA, and Lumineth Realm-lords (58.8% across 80 games). Helsmiths of Hashut also joins the top group (54.2% across 16 players), with Karl Ejnar taking bronze at Games of Westeros XXII.

Other champions of the week. Calvin Smith closed out a perfect 5-0 with Ironjawz (Weirdfist) at Realms 12, held in Nottingham (United Kingdom); Joslyn Bek did the same with Kruleboyz (Trophy Finga) at Tabled By Two GT; and at Realm of Armagedon, held in Borås (Sweden), Agaton Enskär took the title with Ogor Mawtribes (Maw-Cult Fanatics), going unbeaten by drawing a single game (4-1-0) — his list came, very fittingly, with the full lyrics of “Borås, Borås,” the classic Swedish schlager about the host city.

Up and down in the stats. Cities of Sigmar keeps performing well (57.4% across 190 games), but this week it was overtaken in participation by Stormcast Eternals, the most-played faction with 50 players — and the usual paradox: despite being the most popular, it still can’t find consistency (42.6%). Ogor Mawtribes, mid battletome transition, sits for now near the bottom of the overall table (43.3% across 28 players) despite Agaton Enskär‘s title in Borås. Closing out the standings are Kharadron Overlords (41.2%) and Blades of Khorne (40.8%).
